Well well well, we’ve made it to the halfway point of the season. For those who drafted Saquan, Michael Thomas, CMC, Dak, or Austin Ekeler, there’s still plenty of season to go. For everyone else, congrats on your winning record.
Week 7 was a high-scoring one, with absolute monster games from Davante Adams and Tyler Lockett, as well as D.K. Metcalf proving that he is not human.
Without further ado, the Morning Huddle:
Week 7 Team of the Week
QB: Justin Herbert (The ROTY front-runner posted an insane 38+ fantasy point day)
RB: James Robinson (28+ fantasy points - A list of all the RBs with more points than Robinson this season: Alvin Kamara)
WR: Tyler Lockett (45+ points - 20!! targets from Russ spelled a career day by the speedy WR who burned Patrick Peterson again and again)
TE: Harrison Bryant (19+ points - Seemingly coming out of nowhere, the talented Browns rookie filled in admirably for Austin Hooper, who may be out again next week)
D/ST: KC (24+ points - The Chiefs absolutely dominated the Broncos, who take on the Chargers next week)
K: We don’t encourage using kickers.
Mike Davis will “still play” when CMC returns
Those who picked Davis up off the waiver wire and enjoyed his incredible performances were hoping this day would never come. McCaffrey practiced yesterday and is expected to return from his ankle injury in Week 9.
However, don’t expect CMC to return to his previous 99% of snaps role. Speaking Monday, Panthers coach Matt Rhule hinted that Davis will mix in for a handful of touches behind McCaffrey when the superstar returns.
The San Fran Hospital
Raheem Mostert is on the IR. Tevin Coleman is on the IR. Deebo Samuel came off the IR but is now expected to miss two weeks. Jeff Wilson Jr. balled-out against the Patriots, but is now joining the other RBs on the IR. That leaves a few options in the 49ers offensive attack: Jerrick McKinnon (a ghost in Week 7), JaMycal Hasty (talented rookie RB), Brandon Aiyuk (why you should buy him now), and George Kittle (say less).
NooooOdell!
Odell Beckham Jr. is done for the season with a torn ACL, so expect the Browns passing attack to look much different (and better?!). Baker & Co. will likely lean more heavily on the run and 2 TE sets. As surprising as this is to say, the absence of Odell might be a fantasy boost to every single Brown, even Baker Mayfield, who averages 18.1 fantasy points without OBJ, compared to just 13.9 with him.
Check waivers for Jarvis Landry ($$$), Harrison Bryant ($$), David Njoku ($$), and Rashard Higgins - who had 110 yards in OBJ’s absence ($).
Brady doesn’t stop while Belichick struggles
A “prove it” season for the GOAT and his former coach, both Brady and Belichick began the season with hopes to outshine the other and prove that THEY were the sole cause of the 20-years of success in New England. Brady is coming off his best performance of the season, throwing accurate shots downfield and fades to Gronk in a huge win over the Raiders. The Bucs are the NFC favourites.
Things are not so good in New England. Cam Newton showed the world why no team signed him, forcing Belichick to bench him in the embarrassing Week 7 loss to the 49ers. It was the worst defeat in New England during Belichick’s career. The Pats are now 2-4.
Great news for Riverboat Ron
The Football Team’s coach is battling cancer, and things are looking up!
BONUS:
Sneaky Good Pickups on the waiver wire
Rashard Higgins (talented WR has shown chemistry with Baker throughout his career - might finally have a chance to breakout with OBJ sidelined)
Chase Edmonds (Edmonds shouldn’t be available in any leagues, but is. A potential league-winner if Kenyan Drake misses extended time)
Marquez Callaway (the Saints liked this UDFA so much they paid him a signing bonus in the offseason, rare for undrafted rookies. He had a big game (10 targets) with Sanders and Thomas out)
Richard Rodgers (Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert are both expected to be out until at least Week 10: Rodgers is a great fill-in for Week 8)
