Good morning to everyone. In what was already a difficult year - Covid, stock market collapse, etc - another issue emerges: do you start a Steeler or Raven? What about a Broncos player? Why are you asking this?
Let’s get into it:
The Denver Broncos are having try-outs
After one of the most disastrous days in recent memory, the Broncos are left choosing between third-string RB Royce Freeman or practice-squad WR Kendall Hinton TO PLAY QUARTERBACK SUNDAY. IN THE NFL.
Hinton should “play plenty" of QB in Week 12 against the Saints, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Hinton played quarterback at Wake Forest for four seasons before switching to wide receiver during his senior year.
If you’re wondering, Hinton wasn’t good. His freshman season included a 52.5% completion rate while throwing four touchdowns and five interceptions. Mark Sanchez has a higher NFL completion %.
The only Bronco players you can be comfortable starting are named Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay.
How did it come to this?
Has this happened in Denver before?
Yes - they previously had a non-QB under center for multiple seasons!
Baltimore has a Covid-19 problem
Yesterday the Ravens' Reserve/COVID list grew to 18 players - and James Conner tested positive. With their upcoming game against the Steelers hanging by a thread, today will be instrumental in ensuring no new positives emerge.
More positives puts overwhelming pressure on the NFL to cancel the game; which they will cave under.
The Lions Clean House
Yesterday, the Lions took a step in the right direction by relieving Matt Patricia of his coaching duties while also firing Dan Quinn. Best known for this picture:
Patricia is a former Belichick understudy praised for his “defensive mind.” He failed to create even a league-average defensive unit over the course of three seasons.
And Goodell gets his revenge:
Hey… it’s Kyle… Shanahan… 49ers coach… Can we use your stadium?
The 49ers must find a new location to practice and play after Santa Clara County announced a 14-day shutdown. The lockdown takes effect Monday and includes all professional and collegiate sports from playing or practicing.
The 49ers planned to host two games against the Bills and Washington but will now search for alternatives. It would not be a shock for neighbouring counties to take a similar approach as Santa Clara, meaning the 49ers might have to broaden their search radius.
SOME GOOD NEWS!
Austin Ekeler was activated off the IR and is expected to play (but keep an eye on this). Chris Carson was removed from the injury report and WILL play. That’s about it though. Rough day.
BONUS
Thank you all - GOODLUCK today. Go get those W’s folks!!
Question of the day: How many passes could you complete as a starting NFL QB?
